What Is Apple HomeView?

Apple HomeView is a shared smart display for households that want Apple Home controls, Siri AI, entertainment, and FaceTime in a fixed location. It is a hardware product with built-in AI assistance; Siri AI and Apple Intelligence describe its assistant and underlying AI capabilities, rather than separate HomeView models.

Its strongest fit is an Apple household seeking a screen that everyone can use without borrowing another person's phone. Guests can control accessories, set timers, and play music without accessing a household member's private content. Official product overview

What Requires a Paired iPhone or iPad?

The distinction between shared controls and personal assistance matters more than the presence of an AI label. HomeView supports up to six enrolled household members. Each member needs an Apple Account, a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software, and membership in the shared home through the Home app. Guests and unrecognized users can still control smart home accessories, check the weather, set timers, and play music without accessing anyone's personal content. Personal content such as Messages and Calendar depends on face recognition and a paired, recently unlocked device; Apple's product page describes the normal same-Wi-Fi requirement.

Personal-context Siri requests require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad running the latest software, with Siri AI enabled and configured for a supported language. An Apple Intelligence-enabled companion is not required for Siri AI's broad world knowledge, natural conversations, or basic music discovery. Apple also states that certain server-based AI features have daily usage limits. See the October 13 announcement, footnote 2. Product overview

Apple lists an iPhone running iOS 27.2 or later, or an iPad running iPadOS 27.2 or later, plus Wi-Fi internet access for setup and use. Both HomeView models require wired power. Technical specifications

Tabletop or Wall Mounted?

Both models use an A18 chip, a 7-inch Liquid Retina touchscreen, and a 12MP Center Stage camera. The choice changes installation and audio hardware:

Decision Apple HomeView Apple HomeView (Wall Mounted)
Placement Adjustable tabletop display Fixed wall installation
Audio hardware Two full-range drivers, a woofer, and passive radiators Two full-range drivers
Power and mounting USB-C cable and power adapter included Compatible mount, cable, and power adapter sold separately

The tabletop model is the more self-contained purchase. The wall-mounted model suits a permanent hallway or entryway control point, with installation costs beyond the display itself. Specifications and box contents

Smart Home Controls and Their Dependencies

HomeView provides touch and voice control for compatible Apple Home and Matter accessories. Its Home Camera face can show up to nine video feeds. Video summaries and natural-language search specifically for HomeKit Secure Video camera recordings require setup using an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad and an eligible iCloud+ subscription. The number of cameras supported by certain AI features, including video summaries, is limited according to the iCloud+ plan and may change over time. HomeView's ability to display up to nine simultaneous live camera feeds should not be confused with the number of cameras eligible for AI-powered video summaries. Compatible cameras are sold separately. See Apple's October 13 announcement, footnote 7. Apple's announcement and footnotes

Price and Launch Availability

Apple announced both models on October 13, 2026. As checked on October 16, they are in the preorder stage, with availability scheduled for November 13, 2026.

  • Apple HomeView: USD 299 at US launch.
  • Apple HomeView (Wall Mounted): USD 299 for the display at US launch, excluding mounting and power accessories. Apple's announced US prices for compatible Schneider Home mounts start at USD 59.95 for the Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector and USD 79.95 for the Power Mount AC Wired. The Power Mount PoE Wired is scheduled for early 2027 at USD 129.95. The wall-mounted display includes neither a wall mount nor a USB-C cable or power adapter; compatible power accessories must be purchased separately as needed for the selected installation method. Apple's technical specifications specify a minimum 20W power adapter when one is required.

The announced launch markets are the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK. HomeView is not offered for sale in the EU at launch. Siri AI initially supports English and is described as beta in HomeView software 27.2. Launch pricing and availability

Hardware ownership does not establish unlimited AI access. Apple's usage terms allow feature-specific limits and temporary restrictions after a limit is reached. Apple Intelligence usage terms

Apple also says expanded access to certain server-based AI features will carry a fee in the future; the announcement does not specify that fee. Announcement footnote 2

Avoid If

  • You need a portable, battery-powered display rather than a permanently powered home device.
  • You cannot meet the paired iPhone or iPad requirements for the personal features you want.
  • You need an immediately available product or launch support outside the announced markets and English-language Siri AI offering.

These are fit judgments from the documented requirements, not conclusions from testing speech accuracy, speaker quality, or automation reliability.
