Overview
Krisp Accent Conversion (Listener side) is an AI-powered feature that helps listeners understand accented speech in real time during meetings. Unlike speaker-side accent conversion, which changes how others hear you, this listener-side mode (also referred to by Krisp as "Accent Understanding") adapts incoming speech for you alone—speakers do not need to install anything or change how they talk. The technology runs fully on-device (CPU-only), using a proprietary neural model trained on hundreds of thousands of hours to deliver voice-preserving accent neutralization in near real time (≤200ms). It works with Zoom, Teams, Meet, and most apps that support virtual audio device selection via Krisp's virtual audio layer.
Designed for global teams, remote workers, and professionals who frequently communicate across accents, Krisp Accent Conversion preserves the speaker's authentic voice while improving intelligibility. Models are trained across diverse English accents and deliver strongest results across Indian, Filipino, Latin American, African, and Chinese-Mandarin accents, with coverage continuing to expand. The feature is part of Krisp's broader AI meeting assistant suite, which includes noise cancellation, transcription, and AI note-taking. For teams needing clear communication across diverse accents, AI transcription tools and Krisp's listener-side accent understanding complement each other—transcription captures what was said, while accent conversion helps you understand it in the moment. Voice AI continues to evolve: AI voice generators handle synthesis and cloning, while tools like Vapi power voice agents; Krisp focuses on real-time comprehension for human-to-human calls.
Key Features
Listener-side real-time comprehension — Understand accented speech in real time so you can respond, contribute, and make decisions without guessing. The AI analyzes accent-specific patterns and maps pronunciations for clearer comprehension while preserving the speaker's authentic voice.
Zero effort for the speaker — Speakers do not install anything or change how they talk. The listener adapts on their side; speakers show up exactly as they are. This makes it ideal for meetings with external participants, clients, or vendors who may not use Krisp.
Privacy-first on-device processing — For listener-side Accent Conversion specifically, audio is processed locally on your device in real time. Nothing is stored or sent to external servers for this feature, and Krisp does not train models on user data. Note: if you also use Krisp's recording, transcription, or note-taking features, those functions have their own data flows and storage terms governed by the applicable Krisp plan.
Works with most meeting apps — Compatible with Zoom, Teams, Meet, and most other meeting apps that support selecting Krisp as a virtual microphone or speaker. Requires the target app to support virtual audio devices; browser-based apps may have additional limitations (see Compatibility & Requirements section below).
Low latency — Designed for near real-time use (around ~200ms or less), so it should feel natural in conversation without noticeable delay.
Part of broader Krisp suite — Accent Conversion (Listener side) is bundled with Krisp's AI Meeting Assistant, which includes noise cancellation, AI note-taking capabilities, meeting transcription, and AI summaries—all in one app.

FAQ
Is this standardizing voices?
No. Krisp Accent Conversion does not alter voices permanently or require behavior changes. It is built to reduce friction in live conversations, not enforce norms. The speaker's authentic voice is preserved; only the listener's comprehension is improved.
How does Accent Conversion for listener work?
Accent conversion runs fully on-device (CPU-only), using a proprietary neural model trained on hundreds of thousands of hours to deliver voice-preserving accent neutralization in near real time (≤200ms). It works with Zoom, Teams, Meet, and most apps that support virtual audio device selection via Krisp's virtual audio layer.
Does this work for all accents?
Models are trained across diverse English accents and designed to improve intelligibility in global meetings. Strongest results are across Indian, Filipino, Latin American, African, and Chinese-Mandarin accents, with improving comprehension across many others. Coverage continues to expand.
Will it add latency?
It is designed for near real-time use (around ~200ms or less), so it should feel natural in conversation.
Will other people hear the “adapted” audio?
No. The adapted audio is only for the listener who turned it on. Other participants hear the original speaker.
What about privacy and data use?
For listener-side Accent Conversion, audio is processed on the user's device in real time. Conversations are not stored or sent to external servers for this feature, and Krisp does not train models on user data. If you use Krisp's recording, transcription, or note-taking features alongside Accent Conversion, those functions have separate data flows and storage terms—review the applicable Krisp plan for details.
How is this different from Krisp's speaker-side accent conversion?
Speaker-side accent conversion is outbound—it changes how one person sounds to everyone else. Listener-side accent understanding is inbound—it adapts speech only for the individual listener, locally and in real time. Krisp now addresses both sides of the conversation.
Can I use it with other meeting tools?
Yes. Krisp works alongside AI meeting note takers and transcription tools. Accent conversion helps you understand in the moment; transcription and notes capture what was said for later reference. For more voice AI options, see our AI voice generator comparison.
